AN alleged ‘clandestine’ move by some members of the All - TopicsExpress

AN alleged ‘clandestine’ move by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to discredit Governor Babatunde Fashola’s personality over a non-existent succession plan has been discredited by some chieftains of the APC, in Lagos State. The leaders had recently reviewed the turn of events in the state and expressed worries that the ongoing move by certain APC members to discredit Fashola for his alleged selfish objective could become a popular topic, which was untrue and affect the party’s fortune in next year’s election if not curtailed. Reacting to some insinuations doing the rounds that Governor Fashola nurses a hidden succession agenda other than the collective resolve of the party leadership to have free and fair primaries, a source at the meeting, who pleaded anonymity, argued that the lies could be misconstrued for truth, hence the caution to those who have set out to discredit and undermine the governor. The party leader, who holds a critical office in the state chapter of the APC posited that after the meeting that the story being peddled that Fashola preferred a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mr Olasupo Shasore, to succeed him was false and designed specifically by some fifth columnist in the party to set the governor against other loyal members. His words: “Fashola has always been clear about where he stands in the succession battle and it is the fact that the party must to go for primaries, given the array of interested members in the number one seat and other related factors. He had also warned on many occasions that anything outside that would spell doom for the party,” he said.
