ANALYZING BRAZIL 2014: The Elite Trequartista and Regista of Brazil 2014: Who is a trequartista and what role does he play? The trequartista, usually wears the jersey number 10, will sit in a free role between midfield and the forwards, either in the centre of the pitch or on the wings.They are popularly know as PLAY MAKER. He is a player who controls the flow of the teams offensive play, and is often involved in passing moves which lead to goals. They will often make incisive passes to the wingers or forwards, seeing them through on goal or to deliver killer crosses, as well as scoring goals themselves The trequartista needs superb ball skills, a good range of passing and confidence in possession. Defensive contribution is negligible, so someone plying their trade in this role can tailor their training specifically to take-ons, dribbling, through-balls and shooting. There are usually two main types: a)The trequartista:play maker in the central attacking midfield position. Highly technical players with good vision, shooting, passing, crossing and dribbling ability, known for scoring goals as well as providing assists and initiating attacking plays.(Messi,Oscar,Kaka,Rooney,mata,Ozil,Francesco Totti) b)The regista:The registas or deep-lying playmakers, usually wear jersey numbers 8, 6 or 5.operate from a deep position, in or even behind the main midfield line in a seemingly defensive midfield role, where they can use space and time on the ball to orchestrate the moves of the whole team, not just attacks on goal. known for their vision, technique and passing( Xavi,Iniesta,Gerard,Barry,Alcantara and Andre Pirlo. Argentine and Uruguayan playmakers are know as :enganche Brazilian football:meia-armador. Italy :fantasisti or rifinitore False No 9: Deep lying forward: more commonly known as a false-9. The false-9 player appears to be playing as a centre-forward (shirt number 9) rather than as an attacking midfielder (shirt number 10). The false-9 will then drop deep into the midfield drawing defenders with them, creating space for other team-mates to make attacking runs, allowing the false-9 to dribble with the ball or provide these players with assists. Box-to-Box Midfielder: The role is exactly what it says,you run from your box to their box and back again. The job includes linking play, running channels, providing passing outlets and tackling. Goalkeeper: He sees the entire field. He his the eyes of the team. He has to communicate what he sees, because he knows everyone cant see everything thats going on. So it starts with the goalkeeper to the defenders to the midfielders to the forwards. Good goal keeping will be a great factor to team victory. Several veterans will make it to post.
