ANATOMY OF A CLEAN The clean of the Clean & Press is one of the more common exercises performed incorrectly by participants. Typically, a poorly executed Clean is done as a reverse Bicep Curl. While theres nothing unsafe about a reverse bicep curl, its not the Clean technique. TECHNIQUE Maintain cervical, thoracic and lumbar alignment throughout the movement: 1. Perform an Upright Row 2. Externally rotate shoulders, positioning wrists over elbows, flexing knees about 20 degrees COACHING TIP To help participants improve form, have them stand facing a wall about 6 inches away. Have them perform the Clean in this position. The close proximity to the wall prevents the reverse bicep curl from occurring and allows only an upright movement to occur.
