ANC CONDEMNS COLD BLOODED MURDER OF ITS LEADER IN KWAMASHU 31 March 2014 The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal was shocked to learn about a cold blooded murder of one of its leaders in KwaMashu hostel last night. Comrade Sithembiso Biyela was gunned down by unknown gun assailants at his house shortly after returning from an ANC campaign programme. Comrade Biyela was attacked at his house where he was staying with his girlfriend who also sustained injuries. This incident happen shortly after ANC members reported threats of violence that were being made against them including that after the recent by-elections they should pack their bags and leave the hostel or face violence directed at them. The ANC is deeply saddened by the brutal assassination of its leader. This indeed confirms the ANCs worst fears that KwaMashu hostel is now in the hands of thuggish elements that kill with impunity. This begs a question as to whether certain elements are not engaged in a low intensity attack on ANC members ahead of the elections. Comrade Biyelas killing bears the hallmarks of a carefully crafted plan to use intimidation and violence as a way of frustrating the will of the people. As the ANC, we call on police to leave no stone unturned in bringing those who committed these heinous crimes to justice. History has proven that there are elements which only thrive when there is violence in the province. It is also clear that those elements within some political parties are willing to win the elections at any cost even if it means they have to jump over corpses of innocent people. We call upon the leadership of all political parties to rein in their members and preach the message of peace before more blood is shed in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. We call on the voters to give a decisive rebuff to any party that relies on violence to win power. We cannot afford to lose any more lives, no amount of votes is worth the life of any person. Issued by the Provincial Secretary, Cde Sihle Zikalala
