ANC GAUTENG PROVINCE – PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE ANC GAUTENG CONDEMNS THE CRIMINAL CONDUCT OF THE EFF . The ANC Gauteng condemns the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for creating anarchy in the building of the legislature by staging an illegal sitting in, stealing and looting. We call upon the SAPS promptly to investigate all criminal activities of the EFF members by using cameras and take swift action against hooligans. The criminal actions of the EFF cannot be tolerated in the country where the peaceful right to protest is allowed. The anarchy of the EFF is similar to the conduct of Boko Haram in Nigeria. The EFF has a bestowed duty and responsibility to use the legislature platform to represent its constituency, yet this has been reduced to kindergarten. The EFF must undergo thorough re- orientation of the basic rules in the legislature. We maintain that any anarchy will never deter the institution from continuing to be the voice of the masses. The wreaking of havoc in the legislature and in the streets of Johannesburg will not help to deal with the attire matter. Every institution has a right to set standards and procedures to respect their decorum of their organization. The example in point is why the leader of the EFF Dali Mpofu cannot wear red overalls and EFF- branded insignia in the Marikana commission? The legislature is the respected institution for debates to advance the mandates given by the voters. It cannot be an institution of anarchy and vandalism. The rules of the legislature must be respected and any violent conduct, intimidation under the guise of staging a sitting will not be accepted. We have always encouraged members of the opposition and supporters, as well as the general public , to adhere to the non- violent and democratic values of our Constitution. It is also criminal for the EFF members to stage an ill legal sit in, steal staff members cell phones in offices, steal laptops of MPL’s, urinate in Committee Room A and eating the entire food for guests. It is more disgraceful that the stealing and looting was done in full view of their leader Julius Malema without any restrain. Later in the afternoon after the SAPS intervened to remove them from inside the building, the EFF members broke into several shops and looted clothes creating havoc in the streets. The ANC in Gauteng has won elections without any power sharing arrangement in Gauteng. Everyone elected at the legislature was sworn in by the judge including EFF members. They cannot coerce legislature processes and want to impose separate rules. Everyone can now see that the EFF members are a bunch of clowns who cannot make any meaningful contribution but want to cause mayhem. They must prove themselves in real debates not drama and protest actions that have no meaning to the legislature. They cannot show maturity on any substantive debates but hide behind on unnecessary defiance under the pretext that what they are doing is revolutionary. The daily drama of the EFF has become a sad reality on those who voted them, it is very easy to ridicule and become radical but it is a disgrace when the EFF is absent on engagement on real issues affecting the people. If this is how they want to represent themselves in future it shows contempt of those who voted the EFF.
