ANC URGES PEOPLE OF KWAZULU-NATAL TO TAKE PART IN MANDELA DAY ACTIVITIES The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal calls on people of the province to roll up their sleeves and dedicate their time to doing community work on 18 July as part of celebrating the International Mandela Day. The ANC has organised a series of events which will take place in various areas across the province this week as part of responding to a clarion call by President Jacob Zuma for all South Africans to embark on a massive cleaning campaign in honour of our former President, Comrade Madiba. We call on our people to go out in numbers and participate in activities that will improve our orphanages, environment, beaches, non-profit organisations and public buildings such as schools, clinics and streets to further bring about the change that Comrade Mandela fought for many years during the painful liberation struggle against the oppressive apartheid government. The ANC has also tasked its eleven regions to lead well coordinated cleaning campaigns which will be carried out by thousands of our ordinary members and the leadership. President Zuma announced during his State of the Nation Address that this years theme for International Mandela Day will be to clean all parts of South Africa and urged South Africans to use their time to build a cleaner and better country. As part of the activities leading up to the Mandela Day, we will on Wednesday July 16, 2014 have an unmediated forum at the Durban City Hall which will be attended by hundreds of professionals, academics and ordinary ANC members. The Debate will be attended by the ANC Deputy President Cde Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC Provincial Chairperson, Cde Senzo Mchunu, alliance leadership in the province and academics. The forum will start at 4 pm and the topic is “how best can we preserve Madiba’s legacy?
