ANC YOUTH LEAGUE 24TH NATIONAL CONGRESS RESOLUTIONS: Resolutions on Economic Transformation for Economic Freedom in our Lifetime Believing that: 1. The Freedom Charter remains the strategic objective of the African National Congress and a beacon of hope for the absolute majori ty of South Africans 2. All economic trans formation perspectives and resolutions of the ANC are guided by the Freedom Charter’s cla rion call tha t “The people shall share in the country’s wealth” 3. The Freedom Cha rter’s Commi tment and objective that “the mineral weal th beneath the soil , banks and monopol y industries shall be trans ferred to the owners hip of the people as a whole” is unders tood in the ANC to mean amongs t others, the nationalisation of mines 4. The legacy of colonialism and apartheid continues to reproduce the patterns of development and underdevelopment in our society 5. Minerals are at the strategic centre of South Afri ca ’s economi c, political and social development 6. The central and mos t pressing challenges we fa ce are unemployment, poverty and inequality 7. In this rega rd, we commit to move with speed to transform the economy and realise the objectives of the Freedom Charter 8. The assertion of the ANC Strategy and Ta cti cs that “overall, since 1994, the balance of forces has shifted in fa vour of the forces of change.
