ANC Youth League members spent R83000 and allegedly left without paying the bill! A Durban restaurant claims two ANCYL members held two parties they said were official engagements but they didn’t pay the huge bill, reported the Sunday Independent. A restaurant director from the Velvet Lounge - who asked not to be named - told the newspaper that Emmanuel Gumede and Themba Dlomo had approached him and asked him to host two parties on 5 and 6 April. He said at the first party, Dlomo paid R8000 on his credit card for a bill of R27000 spent by a table of 10 people and said the rest would be settled at the next party. At the next party, the director said the entire bottom floor was booked out and VIPs were placed upstairs. The unpaid bills from this night totalled R82583, including R24000 for whisky and R10000 for champagne. Dlomo said he had acted only as a facilitator for a funder to meet the restaurant owner. The newspaper reported that the Sunday Tribune had evidence of an SMS sent by Dlomo which read: “Wanted to tell you that am hosting ANC youth league party tonight at 7pm @Velvet Lounge Florida Road, as my comrade kindly attend.” The ANCYL and ANC told the newspaper that the party had not been authorised. The restaurant owners have approached the police.
