#ANCHeadstart! DID YOU KNOW 92% of our garlic is IMPORTED and only 8% is produced in the Philippines?? Sen. Cynthia Villar, head of senate agriculture committee, blames ineptness of National Garlic Action Team or NGAT w wrong projections on garlic importation, thus allowing traders to manipulate the price bec of lack of supply! Imagine, landed cost of imported garlic w duties is only P17 per kilo??? But it was being sold at P240-300!!! Villar says the Bureau of Plant Industry under the DA failed to monitor and stop increase of garlic. She says someones head has to roll. And in the future, each department of the DA should have a Consumer Protection Group if the Suggested Retail Price of SRP of a basic commodity is not followed, and cases should be filed against these traders ASAP!
