ANCIENT ROMAN REWORKED GLASS BEADS I just discovered these - TopicsExpress

ANCIENT ROMAN REWORKED GLASS BEADS I just discovered these beads several months ago. They are affordable, popular and easily accessible. What I really like about them is their history. The old glass was found in an area once known as the Bactrian Kingdom (Bakhtar) in Afghanistan. A silk route ran through there which was a major trading centre for more than 600 years. Thats why it is sometimes called Roman glass. The ancient glass is recovered & re-worked and sourced from Afghanistan via Pakistan. The recovered old glass has recently been re-cut, shaped & drilled into beads. Most likely Islamic world in origin, possibly older and around 1000 years old. The glass in these strands has mixed color & unique patterns of glass decay with iridescent burial patina. Beads are drilled either in the centre or vertically at each end.
