The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has issued a statement advising AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo to refrain from further insulting President Jacob Zuma. “How we debate in the national discourse does matter, and the ANCYL would want to avoid to be dragged into a mud-slinging match with King Buyelekhaya. However, the delinquent behaviour of King Buyelekhaya arouse the temptation to respond in the manner that equals the insults, but we won’t.” The youth league said that it recognised the contribution of the royal family, including Buyelekhaya and his father King Sabata Dalindyebo, to the struggle. It stressed that while it respects traditional leaders and the role that they play in society, the league takes exception when the status afforded to traditional leaders is abused. “His majesty’s reputation precedes him, leading us to agree with those who have questioned his thinking capabilities and sanity. His majesty is a convicted member of society who is enjoying the privileges of freedom based on bail and his pending appeal. “We must remind him not to use our president as a scapegoat for what may be an imminent prison sentence based on his personal criminal actions. The ANCYL cautions his majesty and his advisors that we will not allow such insults any further without a coarse response.”
