AND SO IT STARTS TOMORROW There are only hours to go to the beginning of the culmination of 10 years of Peter Spencer fighting for the right to farm and use his property. After innumerable hearings in the Federal Court over a period of almost 8 years and a landmark hearing and success in the High Court in 2010, the actual trial begins tomorrow morning in the Federal Court, Sydney. The courage, determination and tenacity of this man can’t be under-estimated, and neither can the importance of the case…. the sheer numbers involved are enormous – around 109 million ha of farming land affected, around 30,000 registered farms affected, around 1 in 10 NSW farms affected and a compensation bill of tens of billions of dollars if just terms compensation is to be paid. And these numbers do not deal with the misery inflicted by the unfair administration and enforcement of the totally unfair native vegetation laws, particularly in western NSW and Queensland..... the lid was lifted on this misery during the Senate Inquiry into Native Vegetation Laws, Greenhouse Gas Abatement and Climate Change Measures in 2010. It is astounding that the case is beginning tomorrow, and the AFFF deserted the field of battle last February. Just WHAT do they think that fund is for? This leaves Spencer in there tomorrow supported by a small group of volunteers and no professional legal counsel. Heroic and unbelievable, but who knows what the outcome will be. To actually have brought the case this far is an extraordinary achievement. Go well tomorrow Peter – there are thousands wishing you well, and there are many who have donated small and large to assist your quest… we are “in your corner”.
