ANDY J GOES FROM LAST TO FIRST TO CLAIM WYOMING COUNTY FEATURE WIN PERRY, NY…After building up a race engine earlier in the day, Andy Jankowiak arrived late to Wyoming County International Speedway (WCIS) Friday night with zero track time and lined up at the tail of the field for the night’s 30-lap SST Modified feature event. A short while later, he sat in Victory Lane after a hard earned victory. Ed Schueler took the lead at the start of the SST Modified feature event and held it for the first 3 laps until the first caution flew for Paul Stolzburg’s car slowing on the backstretch. On the restart, Schueler maintained the lead over Bro Bradshaw while John Barber passed Cam Ayres for third and then moved past Bradshaw for the runnerup spot. Meanwhile, Jankowiak was starting to move through the field. At the one third mark, Jankowiak had made his way into the top five along with Kevin Lewis. A lap 13 yellow for Tim Garlock bunched the field again, and at the halfway point, Barber moved into the race lead as Schueler began to fade with mechanical problems. Jankowiak also moved up, with Lewis hot on his tail. This set up a battle that continued into the final third of the contest as Barber, Jankowiak, and Lewis diced hard for the lead, while Daniel Majchrzak moved in from the fourth spot to join the fray. The race’s final yellow flew on lap 23, and on the restart, the battle at the front of the field continued, as Jankowiak moved into second spot and slipped past Barber with four laps to go. Barber’s car began to fade, which allowed Lewis to grab second. In the final two laps, the pair diced it out for the win, but Jankowiak was not to be denied his second feature win at the “Bullring” this season. Following Lewis across the line were Majchrzak, Steve Fuchs, and Barber. SST Modified heats were won by Schueler and Barber. The 25-lap Super Stock feature event was a wild one that began with Cassidy Logsdon jumping into the top spot at the start, only to have Daniel Majchrzak motor past as lap one was completed. Austyn Fugle, the point leader coming into the event, had trouble and slid into the infield on lap 4, which brought out a caution flag. He restarted at the tail and began working his way back through the field while Mark Loveland stepped into second and began to battle Majchrzak for the lead. Logsdon’s night came to an end when a brake rotor snapped on the car, causing her to slow drastically and stop in turn four on lap 17. This set up a four way battle for the lead, as Majchrzak and Loveland were joined by Allen Bookmiller and Fugle. Things got hectic on lap 22 when Bookmiller dove between Loveland and Majchrzak to make it three wide coming down the frontstretch. As the trio went through turns one and two, Loveland got loose and spun, almost collecting the other two. This set up the final dash to the finish, with Fugle parked on Majchrzak’s back bumper. The final corner of the final lap decided the race in more ways than one: Majchrzak’s right front went soft, sending him high in turn four and giving Fugle the inside lane to win the drag race to the checkers by a half car length. Behind them, Bookmiller made contact with Joe Horvatits, which sent him sliding through the wet infield and leaving Horvatits’ car stranded just two car lengths short of the checkered flag. Mike Chenaille went to the high side and managed to avoid the tangle to cross the line in third, while Bookmiller literally slid across the finish in fourth, with Ron Richter’s spinning car crossing the line in fifth spot. Super Stock heats were won by Logsdon and Loveland. The 20-lap 4 Cylinder feature also had its wild moments. Mike ‘Iceman’ Bradshaw jumped into the lead at the start of the contest while Kevin Grom moved past Andrea Lamanna to grab second and began hounding Bradshaw for the race lead. Cameron Vargo’s car stopped on track on lap 8 to bring out the caution flag, and on the restart, Bradshaw missed a shift, which allowed Grom and Lamanna to close in. Bradshaw had another shift problem coming off turn two, and Grom and Lamanna split his car high and low, with Lamanna rocketing around the outside to take the lead. Grom and Bradshaw continued to battle for second as Lamanna pulled out a three car length margin that she carried to the checkered flag, scoring her first ever feature win after 5 years of trying. Bradshaw got the better of Grom for the runnerup spot, with Eric Hastreiter (driving his dirt track car) and Christine Hanel rounding out the top five. The 4 Cylinder heat was won by Bradshaw. The PGT Trucking Cup Lite Series paid a visit to the “Bullring” on Friday night as well, and heat winner Neal Dietz came from his third starting spot to take the lead on lap 3 of the 20-lap feature to cruise home with the win. TQ Midget driver Kyle Hutchinson ran down runnerup Chris Reisdorf on lap 13 to get the second spot, but ran out of time as he tried to run down Dietz. Dave Whittaker and Stephen Mathewson rounded out the top five. Coming up Friday night, August 16th, the Super Stocks will take center stage with the 50-lap Bob Herman Memorial race. The SST Modifiedsand 4 Cylinders will also be in action. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. WCIS is at 35 Adrian Road in Perry, NY.
