ANGELS IN AMERICA Original Score by Thomas Newman Due to some - TopicsExpress

ANGELS IN AMERICA Original Score by Thomas Newman Due to some clerical error, this was not nominated for an Emmy, which is a shame, since it is one of the composer`s finest works. Perfectly capturing the sense of loss that permeates the miniseries in the very first notes, it uses a mix of quiet and roaring cues to support a story that ranges from Roy Cohn to fever dreams of Heaven. I have many issues with the play/miniseries [the outright lies about Reagan, the whitewashing of the Rosenbergs, the endless preaching, the ludicrous speechifying and Gorbachev-love of the last, awful 20 minutes], but there are great character moments, acting and photography. Newman`s score acts as a balm for the dead and dying of AIDS throughout while managing to be bombastic and uplifting without being pompous, balancing beautiful solo passages with modulated choir and solo voice sections. One of those soundtracks I never tire of hearing.
