ANIMAL LAW UPDATE - GEORGIA - PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE APPROVES CHANGES TO AUGUSTAS ANIMAL ORDINANCES - A MUST READ FOR OHIOS COMPANION ANIMAL ADVOCATES! By Tracey McManus, The Augusta Chronicle Sweeping changes to Augusta’s 35-year-old animal ordinances, which Animal Services Director Sharon Broady said will bring the county into the 21st century, passed the public safety committee Monday. The ordinances will now go before the full Commission Oct. 21 for final approval and include: 1. A mandatory spay and neuter law for all animals in the county, with certain exemptions. Licensed show, hunting and service animals will be exempt from this law and will be required to apply for an unaltered animal permit. 2. A ban on tethering. Animals can not be tethered to any kind of stationary object unless in the presence of their owners. Licensing requirement. All animals must be registered with the county. The registration will be good for the length of that animal’s rabies vaccination. 3. Dogs must wear a collar with vaccination tags attached. Cats are exempt for the safety concerns posed by collars. 4. Requirement for secure transportation. No animal can be transported in an open truck bed unless the animal is secured in a ventilated container....
