ANN FARRAR CONFIRMED AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR NORTH CUMBRIA UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST The board of North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust has today confirmed that Ann Farrar has been substantively appointed as Chief Executive with immediate effect. Ann was appointed as Interim Chief Executive of the Trust in September 2012 and her leadership over the past 12 months has already helped drive forward significant improvements in the quality and safety of patient care being delivered in North Cumbria. As a result of the Trust being placed into special measures following the publication of the Keogh Review in July and the subsequent delay in acquisition, it was important for the Trust to stabilise its most senior management position as it continues to improve and work towards acquisition. Ian Gordon, Chairman said: “Ann has been with the Trust for just over a year now and has made a huge personal commitment to ensure our organisation tackles the serious challenges we face. Ann has a wealth of experience working with one of the best hospital trusts in the country, Northumbria Healthcare. Her appointment will secure that valuable experience and knowledge for our Trust, and it will help to maintain the pace of change that is so important if we are to emerge promptly from special measures.” Ann Farrar said: “I am absolutely delighted that I have been appointed substantively as the Chief Executive of North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust and would like to thank all of the staff for their on-going support, hard work and commitment since I joined the Trust. “This hard work is ensuring we are making real improvements in the care we provide to our patients. This is already paying dividends and improving our performance in a number of areas including the experience of our patients. This is great news and something that will continue into the future. “Our focus will be collectively on increasing our performance to a level to lift us out of special measures.
