ANNAPOLIS POLICE DEPARTMENT GRANT OPPORTUNITIES “Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, FY2013 Local Solicitation” Background Each year, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) of the Department of Justice, through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, allocates funding to states and to units of local government based on populations and crime statistics. Applicants are limited to units of local government cited on the JAG Allocations List found in the program description at ojp.usdoj.gov. BJA "purpose areas" include law enforcement programs and technology improvement programs. Funds may be used for technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems in support of the purpose areas. Although the BJA program "allocates" funding based on formulas, eligible agencies must provide narrative and budget justifications in an application process involving merit reviews. The due date for submission of the application by the Annapolis Police Department is July 9, 2013. Opportunities for Annapolis The allocation for law enforcement activities in Annapolis under the Fiscal Year 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program is $16,844. Based on eligibility requirements and guidance issued by the Office of Justice Programs as well as the imminent needs of APD, the application from the Annapolis Police Department will seek funding for part-time contractual support to implement and refine state-of-the-art information technology in support of crime prevention and law enforcement. This information is provided in the interest of keeping the community informed about opportunities and developments involving law enforcement initiatives.
