ANNOUNCEMENT Im taking a break from writing, and it might be permanently. Before I go any further, I just want to extend my gratitude to those of you who have read my books, and posted such positive reviews of them on Amazon, Facebook and elsewhere. And a big hug to those of you who have sought me out face-to-face to tell me how much youve enjoyed the stories. Ive always said I write for my readers. Thank you so much for your appreciation of my work. I made a decision a few years ago that I would absolutely, under no circumstances, court the publishers. The restrictions they impose on creativity sicken me, so I would only self-publish independently. Unfortunately, that becomes something of a catch-22 situation... The only way readers can appreciate your creativity is if you can get your book marketed to enough people, but unless you are wealthy, the only way to get your book widely marketed is through the mainstream publishers. Call me stubborn, but I can only write my way, not anyone elses way. Im aware some indie writers have become hugely successful. I just dont write that commercially. I can only tell the stories that I have, with the honesty I have. People have given me advice on how to market my books myself. Its like telling someone who is tone deaf how to sing. Its not going to work. I can only write one way - and that is to give it everything I have. Mentally, emotionally, everything. Writing could never be a hobby for me - I just get too invested in what Im doing for it to be that simple. For whatever reason, there is not the passionate support network of readers to drive my work through word of mouth. There is only ever one reason for that - my writing simply doesnt appeal to a wide enough selection of the reading population. But like I said, I can only write one way if Im being true to who I am. Unfortunately for me, when youve given it everything you have, and a small group of people love it, but the world at large ignores it, then it starts to feel a little bit like youre in a failing relationship. For now, Im walking away. Im going to spend some time trying to remember how to have simple, harmless fun. And hopefully get some focus back on improving my physical health. I have now unpublished all my books from all the various channels. I will be removing my Facebook author page. One last thing, to those of you - you know who you are - who have been on the journey with me, my heartfelt, everlasting thanks. Darren
