ANNOUNCEMENT OF ATTORNEY GENERAL DESIGNATE FOR ANGUILLA HE The Governor Christina Scott has today announced that Mr Rupert Jones will replace Mr James Wood QC as Attorney General for Anguilla in August. Commenting on the appointment, the Governor said: “I am delighted to announce that, following an open competition and in consultation with the Judicial Services Commission and the Chief Minister, and acting under Section 66 of the Constitution of Anguilla, I am appointing Mr Rupert Jones as Attorney-General of Anguilla. I would like to take this opportunity to say an early thank you to Mr Wood for his three year’s dedicated service to Anguilla, and to extend a welcome to Mr Jones, who beat a strong field of over 25 applicants to secure the role.” On the announcement of his appointment, Mr Jones said: “I am delighted and honoured to be taking on this role for the Government of Anguilla. It is also the bedrock for a strong and sustainable economy. I look forward to working with Ministers, the public service and Chambers in pursuit of that goal.” Mr Jones, who studied Experimental Psychology at Oxford University, is a British barrister of 14 years standing. He is a co-author of a legal text book on the proceeds of crime and has lectured in academic and professional institutions. Mr Jones, who is a practising Anglican, will be joined in Anguilla by his wife Charlotte and their children Florence and Oscar. He will formally take up his position on Monday 11 August.
