ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR NOVEMBER 23, 2014 The mission of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church is to make disciples through proclaiming Christ as Lord and making a -sacrificial and loving difference in our community. Welcome to Saint Aidan’s!! Whether you are a first-time visitor, a lifelong Episcopalian, or just curious about the Church, we are blessed by your presence, and we wish to get to know you after worship and tell you more about our parish activities and outreach. Thank you! You are the Ministers of the Church! There are many opportunities for ministry here at St. Aidan’s. Within the parish we have opportunities to minister as a Chalice Bearer, a Lector, a Lay Eucharistic Visitor, or Altar Guild, on the Building and Grounds Committee and the Green Team; we serve the community through the BackSnack program, the JCFM Center of Grace, Snacks for Mission Trail, our Christmas Outreach for SafeHome, St. Paul’s Food Ministry, and our Bread Ministry. Where is God calling you to get involved? Name Tags: Name tags are available on the table beneath the AED in the narthex (entryway). Please take a moment to stop and fill out a name tag: it is a friendly way to say hello and greet other worshipers. Thanks! Neighborhood Food Pantry at St. Paul’s in Kansas City, Ks: Please contribute to the Food Pantry by filling a grocery bag and placing it in the large basket in Outreach Center next to the Narthex. The pantry needs canned fruit, coffee, cooking oil, and small size plastic bags. Please see Paul Reed for more information. Thank you! Prayers: If you would like names included in our “Intercessory Prayers and Thanksgivings,” please inform the church by emailing the church office, by texting or calling Fr. Shawn at 913 660-5647. There is also a Daughters of the King “Prayer Chapel” on the podium for your requests. The Parable of the Great Judgment: In today’s Gospel reading from Matthew, Jesus tells the parable of the Great Judgment, where the king separates the sheep from the goats based upon what they have done. But wait, isn’t our relationship with God based on grace rather than on works? What’s going on here? Was Martin Luther wrong when he preached salvation as the gift of a gracious God? Stay tuned for today’s sermon as we discuss these questions and more!! Safehome Christmas Tree: We will be collecting warm clothing for women for Safehome the next two Sundays (Nov. 23 & 30). Please leave your unwrapped gifts under the Safehome Christmas Tree in the narthex; if you have any questions, please see Joyce Moriarty. This Week at Saint Aidan’s . . . Monday, November 24: Office closed. Tuesday, November 25: 8 pm - Al Anon meets. Wednesday, November 26: 11 am - St. Paul’s Food Pantry, Kansas City, Ks. Please see Paul Reed for information about helping. Wednesday, November 26: No BackSnack packing. Thursday, November 27: Thanksgiving Day. Saturday, November 29 5 pm – Holy Eucharist at the side chapel. Looking Ahead . . . Lay Minister Meeting: We would like to hold a meeting of all lay ministers eventually. Honest. What works for you? Please provide Fr. Shawn your preferences and suggestions; thank you. There just might be treats and cocoa. Advent: The Season of Advent starts next Sunday (Nov. 30). Advent is the four Sundays prior to Christmas Season, and is the season of patiently preparing ourselves for the coming of the Lord. Observances of Advent include Advent candles and Advent wreaths. What will you do to prepare yourself for the coming of the Christ child? In the cultural barrage of relentless consumerism, where do you find the silence and space to prepare yourself? Where do your neighbors and colleagues? Invite them to worship with us this Advent Season as we seek together the peace which passes understanding and the seasonal frenzy. Safehome Holiday Store: Safehome provides a healing atmosphere where survivors of domestic violence can gain inner strength, build self esteem, explore options, and establish a life free of violence. As the Christmas season approaches we once again will be collecting unwrapped gifts Safe Home: winter weather clothing items for women. The Safehome tree decorated with butterflies will be in the nave on November 23 and 30, for donations. We also need volunteers to deliver items to the Safehome store in December (Dec. 2 through Dec. 5) and to work at the Safehome store; there will be a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Please see Joyce Moriarty for more information.
