ANOTHER HOPE FOR DISAPPOINTED GUNNERS Arsenal are being linked with a shock £6million move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul. The Daily Star claims the Gunners’ interest has peaked in the five-cap Dutch international, after falling behind in the race to sign Julio Cesar from QPR. Arsene Wenger was chasing the Brazilian international stopper, but the paper reports that the 33-year-old is close to completing a season-long loan move to Napoli. His return to Italy would leave Arsenal continuing their search for a new number one, and the Star cite reports in Holland when claiming that Wenger is ready to test the resolve of the Toon with a £6million offer. Krul would provide strong competition for the starting spot at the Emirates Stadium, with Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski currently vying for the position. Whether Newcastle United would be willing to sell to a Premier League rival is another issue to consider, after Krul’s fantastic form in recent seasons. Only injury hampered his progress at St. James’ Park last term, and manager Alan Pardew will be desperate to have the player between the sticks next season for the Magpies. However, he’s not in charge of transfer activities on Tyneside, with that responsibility handed to Newcastle director of football Joe Kinnear.
