ANOTHER IMPORTANT BREASTFEEDING QUESTION TO SHARE WITH YOUR MAMA FRIENDS. Fan Q: Hello Dr. Carly Someone told me that nursing your child during the night is not good for him. Its harsh on his tummy because his digestive system slows down during night time. Whats your opinion? Cant wait for the class on Thursday! Oh dear! I hope this was not a health professional who suggested this. MoA: ms and babies are designed to nurse through the night, often for months if not years. The digestive system of a baby is designed to easily digest and absorb breastmilk regardless of what time of day it is. Nursing at night serves to maintain milk supply (especially important for newborns), and it helps regulate breathing, heart rate, and stress hormones for babies (this is why breastfeeding and cosleeping are both independent factors protecting against SIDS). This information is just plain wrong but Im glad that you asked!
