ANOTHER ONE OF CEDS MOVIE REVIEWS.......DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES: One of the biggest problems with summer blockbusters is that the writers/directors rarely succeed at achieving a balance. Theres either too much action with no story or character development....or the other way around. Something Michael Bay continues to ignore with his Transformer films is that no one cares about 2+ hours of mind melting action if we have zero connection to the characters or plot. My favorite example of doing this perfectly is of course The Dark Knight. I love sequels that raise the stakes....take the characters to dark territory....and pushes the emotional envelope. Im very happy to say that this is exactly that. The first installment was as good of an origin and setup story as you can ask for.....but what really makes the second installment special is that while it continues the story, it is also good enough to stand alone. The writers manage to go beyond the cliche man vs animal dialogue and take us to a depth that forces us to recognize heroes and villains on BOTH sides. From Andy Serkis (who also plays Gollum in the LOTR and HOBBIT films) as Cesar to the best motion capture effects ever put on screen, this is an absolutely flawless work of art. Dark, triumphant, heavy, entertaining....just perfection. I grade DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES....A++
