ANOTHER ONE OF *THOSE* CONVERSATIONS IN MY HOME:-The Vital Difference Between A Cuddle, A Snuggle and a Hug Oldest Son: - “Ummm mum something is going seriously wrong with the bed-time ritual “ Me: “I’m just trying to make it a little shorter and sweeter “ Oldest son: - “This is unacceptable! I didn’t agree to ANY variation in my routine!! We have a night -time agreement and I’d like us to stick to it. I was perfectly satisfied with our previous arrangement and its undemocratic to change it without consulting me so let it be known now I do not agree with any alterations ...now proceed with all the usual comforts, hugs, cuddles, snuggles and so forth in the right order. You may commence! “ Me: (leaning in for a *hug*) Oldest Son: “whoa! Stop right there! What are you doing?” Me:“I’m giving you a hug” Oldest Son: “This simply won’t do. It isn’t a hug unless you are wearing your fluffy blue dressing gown! As a mother you have certain duties I expect you to perform and I’m finding this aberration of your behaviour quite disturbing so go and get changed now please ! Me: “I’m offering you a blue-dressing gown free hug and tonight that’s all I’ve got to offer .Take it or leave it” Oldest son: “I’m really shocked now, this is appalling ...you aren’t even fluffy!!! Hugs have to be fluffy! What kind of mother are you? Me: “A tired one? “ Oldest son: “I’m sorry but that excuse is sub-standard and I’m not accepting it! Please just stick to the routine! “ Me: (Re-appearing in the blue fluffy dressing gown and commencing the hug to be followed by a cuddle and then a snuggle in that order!!!) Oldest Son: (shaking head with a woeful expression) “No no! The hug was nice and fluffy; not as satisfying as usual but in the acceptable range... but as for the cuddle there wasn’t enough lip pressure on my right cheek when you kissed me ! Please begin again and don’t forget to rub your chin on my head when you get to the snuggle !!!
