ANOTHER TAKE ON BEING DEAD BROKE In 1980, when Ted Kennedy - TopicsExpress

ANOTHER TAKE ON BEING DEAD BROKE In 1980, when Ted Kennedy was running for president, a steel worker in Ohio asked him “was it true that he had never worked a day in his life?” Before Kennedy could respond, the worker said “that’s okay, Senator, you haven’t missed a damn thing.” That could never be said about Hillary Rodham Clinton. She has worked really hard … as a lawyer, author, First Lady, United States Senator, Secretary of State and now in leading the Clinton Foundation. No doubt, she has had to work harder than most. Yesterday, she said that she and Bill Clinton were “dead broke” after leaving the White House in 2001. She spoke the truth. She described, accurately, what a lifetime of public service had cost them. The Clintons were by no means wealthy when they arrived in Washington from Little Rock. After eight years in the White House, the nation’s deficits may have been turn into surpluses but their personal finances were deep underwater. Their $12 million in legal debts far exceeded their assets and income. So both Bill and Hillary Clinton worked hard, paid off those debts and did lots of good around the world. Fourteen years later, they may be millionaires. From the schedules they both keep, no one can say they havent earned it the old fashioned way: honestly and by working really hard.
