ANOTHER TRAFFIC FATALITY ON SUNLAND BLVD. In last night’s traffic fatality on Sunland Blvd., Claudia Perez of Sun Valley was killed when the driver of the second vehicle (Luis Tapia) lost control of his vehicle hitting Perez’s Infinity SUV, sending her into the power pole, trapping her inside. It was determined by the two sets of skidmarks that Perez’s car skidded over 210’ before hitting the power pole. Tapia’s tire prints show that he skidded 70’ alongside of her car. Firefighters from Stations 24, and 74, under the direction of Battalion Chief 12 utilized cutting and prying tools to try and extricate Perez. Unfortunately, she was declared at the scene. It was then changed from an accident to a crime scene. Tapia was arrested at the scene and is being held on $1M bail for DUI and Street Racing. LAPD Valley Traffic Detective Bill Bustos Stated that Investigators were trying to determine if Tapia was chasing the woman before the crash or if the two were racing. Nothing is conclusive until the LAPD Traffic investigators finish their investigation. Her family arrived about 30 minutes later and watched as the firefighters removed her body from the SUV. This is the second accident at this site in the last 2 weeks. SLOW DOWN AND LIVE
