ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON UWEZO FUND (FAQS) Q: WHO QUALIFIES? A: Registered Youth and Women groups and religious organisations Q: WHAT IS THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERION? A: For women and youth groups to qualify they must: i) Be registered with the Department of Social Services or the Registrar of Societies with membership of 5-15 members. ii) The youth group membership must be between 18 and 35 years of age. The womens group must be made up of women ONLY. iii) Preference will be granted to groups that have been in existence for at least six (6) months. iv) Be based and operating within the constituency it seeks to make an application for consideration. v) Operate a table banking (chama) structure where members make monthly contributions according to the groups internal guidelines (evidence of monthly contributions will be required) . vi) Hold a bank account in the name of the group. vii) Recommended by the Chief of the location. viii) For religious institutions to qualify, they must be; > Registered entities; > Recommended by the Inter-religious Council of Kenya; > Have listed youth and women groups ix) An application to the Uwezo Fund shall be accompanied by; > A signed guarantee form executed by each member of the women or youth group individually committing to repay the loan requested by the group. > Individual group member reference letters from recognized leaders in business, religious organizations, national or county government administration in the location validating the members credibility. Q: How will youth and women access the fund? Step1: Sign up for capacity building programme once launched Step 2: Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria Step 3: Fill an application form (this form will be available at the constituency Uwezo Fund Management Committee office and on the Uwezo Fund website) Step 4: Submit the application form together with the relevant documents to the Uwezo Fund Management Committee within your constituency Step 5: Await notification of the Uwezo Fund Management Committee Q: How much money is accessible? A: Minimum of 50,000 and a maximum of 500,000 at a given time. In determining the amount a group can receive the following will be considered: a) the length of time the group has been in existence, b) total amount the group has contributed, c) the current status of the contribution and d) the proposed plan for the loan Q: How will repayment be done? A: The repayment period for the loan element will be determined by the following: > The amount of money borrowed; > The size of the group > The proposed plan for the loan P.S: Groups will be allowed six months grace period before commencement of repayment of the loan element. All loans will be repayable within 2 years from the date of the grace period. Q: Is there interest payable? A: No, but a 3% administration fee will be charged. SOCIAL SERVICES REGISTRATION GUIDELINES > Fill in an application form obtainable from the District Social and Development Offices at the Sub-county (District Headquarters) > Attach minutes of the group meeting seeking registration and showing elected officials > Attach list of members duly signed with ID numbers > Attach group by-laws/rules > Once registered, the certificate shall be renewed annually > The group shall be required to submit a report quarterly > The group shall allow accessibility of records to the registeration authority > The group shall pay the approved Registration fee of Ksh. 1,000/- 2.
