ANYONE ELSE FEEL THIS WAY? I am writing this letter in response - TopicsExpress

ANYONE ELSE FEEL THIS WAY? I am writing this letter in response to your recent SWEEP fine, or in my view - extortion, notice that I received recently. I am now aware of the foolish statutes and ordinances, attached, regarding placement of trash and recycling containers on the front porch of our home. I am fed up with ridiculous legislation designed to generate revenue for the city. For the record, our recycling bins and trash cans were set in a neat and unobtrusive manner on our front porch, where common sense, simplicity, and convenience dictated. I could understand being fined for keeping bags and bags of garbage and refuse on the porch, or if several people came to me and asked me to remove something unsightly, and I chose to do nothing. To my knowledge, no one complained about our front porchs appearance, and our porch is always neat in appearance, with our trash and recycling bins neatly stacked. Now, in addition to trash pickup being a disturbance of the peace twice a week, with all neighborhood dogs barking and loud diesel truck clatter during the very early morning hours (12-3am), I am also expected to keep the trash cans and recycling bins in the rear of the property. This is incredibly inconvenient and unsanitary, as now I will either have to carry our refuse through the house or around the block. This could mean 5 recycling bins in addition to a trash can once a week. So, in addition to having to pay an unlawful extortion fee for something as ridiculous as this, we are now inconvenienced and forced, against common sense and our will, to store our refuse far away from where the trash is collected from. If this is the law you wish to enforce, then I might suggest that the trash collection trucks be required to collect from the alleys behind the homes, as not everyone can carry their trash all the way around the block in lieu of carrying it through their own living space, risking their familys health and safety. Or, perhaps, instead of unlawful legislation, you could write some that makes sense, insuring that extortion of the public over petty issues like street cleaning and garbage can placement isnt seen as the whole point of the administration offices of this city. Cease & Desist!
