ANYONE is welcome to join us for a Fungus ID walk this morning, at Blackwater Ecological Preserve in Zuni! (no groups, please) Mushroom field guides will be helpful, as well as a drink, snack, and dressing in layers, closed-toe shoes. I dont know if our guide plans to take us off-trail, but I would say probably so. Chiggers and ticks are still out this time of year. Peninsula carpool meets 7:15 a.m. at Virginia Living Museum Upper/Overflow/Bus parking lot. Carpool departs at 7:30; drive is one hour. If you are not planning to drive, please have a few bucks to chip in for your drivers gas. If you are not joining the carpool, meet us at the Dairy Queen, 61 West Windsor Blvd, Windsor, VA (intersection of routes 460 & 258) at 8:30 a.m. please, so we can squish into fewer cars. We meet our guide, Peter Schafran, at the main entrance at 9 a.m. From Norfolk, take US 460 west across the Dismal Swamp; after crossing the Nansemond River take the second exit right (north) this is still 460. Go north 8.9 miles to US 258 (there is a Dairy Queen at this corner). The address of the main entrance to the Preserve is at 24326 Thomas Woods Trail, Zuni, Virginia 23898. Use this address for MapQuest, GPS, or similar programs. ODU Biology Chairs website dedicated to the preserve has directions at bottom, as well as CLOSED for hunting dates: ww2.odu.edu/~lmusselm/blackwater/
