AP: The new address for Skill Development I consider myself fortunate to be part of the historic launch of app development programme titled Smart Idea in our state. This is the first time a state in India has come up with such an epoch-making program by supporting innovation and encouraging students to build apps. In my dream of making Andhra Pradesh a knowledge society, I realize the crucial role that our Skill Development Mission plays. Skilling has to be done in sectors ranging from engineering to auto, manufacturing, construction, tourism, hospitality, education, retail, banking & commerce, electronics, communication, information technology and others. What this means for us is that we require good training centres, better infrastructure facilities and labs, content, trainers, motivated trainees, training delivery, assessment & certification systems, scaling-up methodology, industrial opportunities in the form of apprenticeship and placements. In this direction, I have launched 17 skill development centres in the state. These will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of human resources. The program, initiated a month ago, already has over 650 students from 98 colleges who have developed nearly 3,000 apps. Some of these apps will eventually be absorbed for e-Governance. Students pursuing any course (not necessarily Technology related) can enroll in this program. Colleges enrolled with the AP State Skill Development Corporation can be a part of this program. This will also encourage students to come up with ideas and turn them into products with suitable mentoring. This is how they will have their own start-up with support from angel investors. This means the Internet economy opens doors for thousands of start-ups that have taken bets on content, apps and services that really make the Internet the revolution it is. I’m confident that Andhra Pradesh will truly emerge as the “Epicentre of App Building” and stand as a model state for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
