The All Progressives Congress (APC) states that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday night sent soldiers to remove the APCs postersin Yola, Adamawa State capital. Their posters were replaces by those of the ruling party, APC claims. According to the Interim National Vice Chairman of the APC for the North East Zone, Umar Duhu, soldiers of the 23rd armoured brigade replaced the posters in preparation for the President Goodluck Jonathans Tuesday visit to the state. The APC had on Monday inaugurated the Adamawa interim committee. Prior to the inauguration, the party put up is posters, billboards and fliers across all strategic locations in Yola. However, later in the night; immediately after the curfew periodhas set in, we visibly saw military men with their guns hanging on their necks, busy removing our posters and replacing them with that of the PDP and President Jonathan 2015, Duhu said. Duhu added that the military is supposed to be non-partisan as they are paid with tax payers money to safeguard integrity of Nigeria. He advised the military to stay out of politics. We will resist thisdraconian method Duhu further stated that the ruling party is using the military to pressure the oppositions and ensure that Goodluck Jonathan is returned as president by hook or crook. He said, the APC stands ready to face the challenge even if it means we will lose our lives to protect democracy in Nigeria. He also restated the position expressed by the APC in the past that the PDP had decided to merge with security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. If you look at all revolutions around the world, the military will continue to shoot the people until they get tired and also drop their guns and join the crowd. So we are ready to upturn the system we have today to ensure that probity and rule of law hold supreme in Nigeria, he declared. Presidents shield corruption in his government The APC Interim Vice Chairman also accused Jonathan of shielding corrupt elements in his government. Duhu pointed out at the alleged massive corruption involved in the construction of the secondary school built by the Nigerian Air force, that Jonathan was to commission in Adamawa during his visit. Duhu also cited the reported incident of the harassment of journalists by Air force officers to prevent them from witnessing the event. What happened with the harassment of journalists during the presidents visit is unfortunate. The President said the CDS [Chief of Defence Staff] was appointed because he was prudent with resources, then why were they preventing journalists from taking inventory of the materials there? he asked. Naij reportedon Wednesday that the reporters of various media houses were initially scrutinized by security men and allowed entry into the premises of Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School during the Presidentt visit. However, they were then thrown out of the venue and locked up in one of the classrooms for over three hours. Later a presidential aide, Emmanuel C. Anita, told the journalists that they had no business in the place and threatened to use maximum force on them if they refused to leave the place, adding that the order was from above.
