APC FORUM SEEKS @GOVERNOR_AHMEDS RE-ELECTION... AS KWARA STUDENTS ENDORSE HIM purred by the performance of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State in the last three years, a political group under the banner of All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders’ Forum in Babanloma, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, has urged the governor to embark on a re-election bid. It said the re-election would enable him continue the good work and consolidate on the achievements in all aspects of governance. This was contained in an open letter to the governor title: “Maigida: Performance Commendation and an Appeal”, signed by some party stakeholders in Babanloma, a copy of which was made available to The Herald in Ilorin yesterday. Those who appended their signature on the statement included Special Assistant to the state governor on Education Monitoring, Alhaji Abdullahi Yakubu; former chairman of Ifelodun Local Government council, Hon Baba Mohammed Kosalamola; Hadji Garba Olaoye, Deacon E.B. Olatomiwa, a member of Board of Directors of Kwara State Printing Publishing Corporation (The Herald), Elder Samson Kayode and Alhaja Titilayo Salami. The rest are Alhaji Garba Ebirere, Alhaja Arinola Bello, Mr Paul Ibrahim, Hon Dare Idowu and Hon Akeem Kolawole. The statement said it was confident that the re-election of Governor Ahmed would receive the blessings of the state APC leader, Senator Bukola Saraki anytime he makes his intention known. The group said it was prepared to work assiduously for the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections. It thanked the governor for appointing Mr Kola Olatomiwa as a member of the state Scholarship Board and called for more appointments of people of the community in top echelon of the civil service. The statement reads partly, “The leadership offered by the duo of Governor Ahmed and Senator Bukola Saraki are enough assets for us in this party. We are prepared to work assiduously in ensuring an outstanding success for the party come 2015. “Your Excellency is hereby urged to go for the second term to continue the good work and consolidate on the work already done. This is a clarion call for service by your people. The call represents the wish of all right thinking and rational individuals and groups. This is devoid of sychophancy, ethnic/ religious bigotry and myopic perceptions. “Please go for second term. We are confident that you will have the blessings of our amiable, just, considerate and objective leader, Dr Bukola Saraki and the good people of Kwara State. “We are using this medium to thank Your Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, the State APC Leader, Dr Bukola Saraki and His Royal Majesty, the Emir of Ilorin for the patronage of our community and for making us have a serious sense of belonging. “We appreciate Your Excellency’s proactive governance of Kwara State, the projects in our community and the appointments of our sons. We request for your consideration of more appointments especially in the top echelon of the civil service among others and we implore you to go for the second term. In another development, Kwara State students under the auspices of National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) have endorsed the educational and developmental programmes and policies of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. The students, who pledged their total support for the success of the APC government under Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, gave the endorsement during a solidarity visit to Governor Ahmed, described the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration as “a period of change, a period of development and a period of giant stride in the education sector”. The students, led by their National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Obafemi Oyeniyi, said that in the last three years tertiary institutions in the state have had infrastructural development, including the building of 10 new lecture halls at the State College of Education, Oro; building of an e-library of 500 sitting capacity at the State polytechnic, Ilorin to boost research and learning; as well as the 1000 capacity auditorium at the College of Arabic and Islamic Studies. The students also commended the State government for the payment of bursary and scholarship to students of the State origin and declared “Today we have come in thousands to declare our total support for All Progressive Congress because it is in you our problems of epileptic power supply will be solved, unemployment will go, corruption will end, rule of law will become the order of the day and strike will end”. Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in his address said his administration remained committed to the implementation of policies and programmes that would make the state more enabling for the people of the State, especially the youths, realise their potentials as State builders. Dr Ahmed said it was in this light that the state government initiated entrepreneurship development programmes to create a new generation of job creators and employers of labour rather than job seekers adding that the strategy has contributed immensely to the reduction of unemployment challenges in the State. The governor urged the students to participate actively in the forthcoming Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ registration exercise to ensure that they are not disenfranchised in the 2015 General Elections, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, AbdulWahab Oba.
