APC SAYS PARTY WILL GIVE SPECIAL ATTENTION TO WOMEN. Mrs Sharon Ikeazor, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Interim National Women Leader, said that more women would be given leadership positions if the party won the 2015 presidential election. She made this known at a workshop organised by APC in collaboration with the International Republican Institute (IRI) in Abuja on Monday. According to Ikeazor, APC plans to build on its reputation as an advocate of gender equality in the country as it obtains in APC led government in Ekiti. The workshop, which aimed at increasing women participation in politics, was attended by the party’s women leader from the six geo-political zones. In a remark, Alhaji Umar Duhu, APC’s Deputy National Chairman (North-East) said APC was gender friendly and had allowed for more women’s participation in the affairs of party. “We believe women should participate in every sphere of life so that they can get equality rather than 35 per cent affirmation,” he added. A participant at the workshop, Mrs Olufunke Owoseni, APC women leader in Ekiti, said the workshop came at the right time because women should be well informed on leadership. “ Women are participating in politics now, but APC is more assuring in women representation,” she said. Another women leader, Mrs Hafsat Baba, said the workshop would help in the mobilisation of women across the country because the party had the potentials to do so. The Country Director of IRI, Mrs Robina Namusisi, said the workshop was aimed at supporting women’s empowerment . According to Namusisi, IRI will use the workshop to teach organised and promote women advocacy in the country. “Adequate awareness and networking will help in addressing legal framework towards women empowerment,”she said.
