APC presidential aspirant in court over N5.4m debt Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 general elections, Sam Nda-Isaiah, has been taken before a magistrate’s court in Lagos over an alleged debt of N5.4 million. The plaintiff, Kalu Okoronkwo, in the suit, is also claiming the sum of N1 million as general damages for a breach of contractual agreement he had with the politician. In his statement of claim, the plaintiff said that in February 2014, the defendant engaged him to act as a media consultant in his SAM4NIGERIA campaign and he was eventually placed on a weekly salary of N100,000 per week. He claimed further that, as part of the arrangement, he was lodged at Brickland Residence Hotel, Abuja, and he was also instructed by the defendant to execute a documentary programme at the cost of N1.9 million for 10 days. However, the documentary, which was meant for 10 days, was extended for 20 days, owing to delays from the defendant’s inability to get the respondents ready for interviews, thus incurring additional costs of about N580,000. This pushed the cost of shooting the documentary to N2.5 million. The plaintiff claimed further that out of the whole sum, the defendant only provided N1.2 million through his aides. Okoronkwo alleged that the defendant has refused to pay for his hotel bills and has also refused to pay his salary, after paying for only three weeks. He is asking the court for an order compelling the Nda-Isaiah to pay him N900,000 a the expenditure he incurred during the mobilisation in the 57 local governments in Lagos State, hiring direct labour to paste posters and distribute profiles around the councils, collection of data of delegates, party chairmen and secretaries as well as other logistics for the APC direct primaries in Lagos State. He is also asking for the sum of N1,290,000, being the outstanding amount on the shooting of the documentary, N3,300,000 as outstanding salary for 33 weeks and the sum of N1,000,000 for general damages. Nda-Isaiah is yet to file his defence while the matter has been fixed for hearing on November 25, 2014.
