APC responds to Oyedepos gates of hell comment saying it will lock him inside there altNIGERIAs main opposition party the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rubbished the recent statement credited to leading cleric Bishop David Oyedepo in which he said the gates of hell awaited those who did not support President Goodluck Jonathan. As the political temperature rises ahead of next months general elections, both President Jonathan and his opponent, General Muhammadu Buhari of the APC have been traversing the country in search of votes. Among their targets have been Nigerias influential clergymen, who command large followings of passionate supporters. Last week, President Jonathan paid a visit to Pastor Oyedepo, the general overseer of the Living Faith Church known as Winners Chapel, at Ota in Ogun State. During the visit, Bishop Oyedepo reported threatened to open the gate of hell to those opposed to the re-election of President Jonathan. So far, the comments have not been independently verified and Bishop Oyedepo himself has refused to confirm he said them. Some people present at the church said what the bishop actually said was that he would open the gates of hell to those opposed to Nigeria and that he urged the church to pray for peace in Nigeria and a violence-free 2015 polls. However, responding to the alleged threat, the APC and its supporters have taken to the social media to criticise Bishop Oyedepo. In an official tweet, the APC said: “Go and open the gates of hell and we will enter there and use our permanent voters cards to change the padlock and lock you inside. In addition, the party also re-tweeted some of the comments of its followers. However, some APC members say the party does not have the moral justification to condemn Bishop Oyedepo if he actually made the statement since it celebrated a sermon by Catholic priest Reverend Mathew Mbaka in which he was highly critical of the president.
