APC violence in Ogun: PDP, GNI call for caution The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State and the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria, Gboyega Isiaka have urged the All Progressives Congress to stop the reign of terror and violence in the state. Both the PDP and Isiaka in separate press statements, yesterday, condemned the spate of violence in the state where ten persons were shot by suspected political thugs who attacked guests at a function organised by a senator of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Wasimi, Ogun State. The PDP in a statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Waliu Oladipupo, warned the APC not to plunge the state and the whole of the South West into another round of avoidable crisis and bloodletting. “We are shocked at the resort to violence over mere party membership registration and/or drive. If this level of desperation could be shown in intra-party wrangling, only God knows what would happen during the primaries and elections proper. As we have stated earlier, these incidents portend an ominous sign of the grave dangers ahead of our dear state, especially as the 2015 general election approaches.” In his reaction to the incident which occurred yesterday, Isiaka ,through his media assistant Wale Junaid said, “ We are more disturbed when action and body language of the governor is lending credence to the information we are getting that the hoodlums were loyal to him because the reported meeting that Governor Amosun held with the Journalists the following day after the first attack where the governor actually apologised on behalf of the hoodlums calls for concern. “The action of the governor could either mean an admittance of guilt and failure in his constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of Ogun people or directly owing up to the fact that the hoodlums are truly his errand boys as also alleged by Senator Kaka of the same political party; APC. “Clearly, Ogun state is under the siege of a totalitarian regime. We are using this medium to humbly call on His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan to direct the Inspector General of Police, the Director of the State Security Service and other relevant security agencies to intervene in the worsening security situation in Ogun state where the freedom of the people have not only been subverted but also fear for the safety of their lives. “We commiserate with the injured policemen and other innocent residents of Ewekoro while wishing them quick recovery”, he said.
