APGA National Chairman Chief Umeh calls for peace and justice The National chairman All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Chief Victor Umeh has called on Ndi-Igbo to be peaceful in promoting justice, fairness and equity in Anambra politic for the socio-economic development of the state. Chief Umeh who disclosed this to journalists in Awka explained that he would continue to uphold the legacy of the Igbo leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in championing the cause of Ndi Igbo. He stated that APGA party is one indivisible family that unites Ndi-Igbo together. He admonished Ndi-Anambra to be wise in choosing the leader that would continue with the good developmental works of Governor Peter Obi urging them not to allow power and might to dominate in the forthcoming governorship poll. Contributing, the majority leader in the state house of Assembly Mr. Hafford Oseke appealed to Ndi-Anambra to come out-enmass to revalidate their voters’ card to enable them exercise their Franchise in the forth coming polls assuring that every vote must count. On his part, the traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Chief Austin Ndigwe implored Ndi-Anambra to cultivate strength to character and remain supportive to Governor Peter Obi’s administration. An APGA Stalwart Prince Azubike Ilo and a civil servant Mr. Chike Obuekwe frowned at the deportation of the Igbos at Upper-Iweka Onitsha explaining that every citizen has right to decide in any part of the country. Police arrests two persons suspected to be involved in illegal registration. The police in the state have arrested some people who were allegedly brought in from different parts of the country to register illegally for the coming elections in the state. ABS reporter Paul Ezeoke who covered the incident reports that the suspects were arrested at the Ofala square registration centre, Ward five Igbariam, Anambra East local government area. According to the Transition Committee chairman, of the council area, Mr. Chinedu Obidigwe, the suspects numbering over five hundred were conveyed from Jos and Lagos states in three Luxurious buses and other smaller buses allegedly hired by one of the contendents who has been moving around in the state with convoy in collaboration with a traditional ruler in the area. Mr. Obidigwe said the exercise was part of the grand plan to manipulate the coming elections and enjoined other Transition chairman to remain alert as similar maneuvering might occur in some parts of the state urging INEC to strengthen its supervising machinery. One of the suspects, Mr. Bonaventure Ofiaeli from Ozubulu and a shoe seller in Jos admitted that they were mobilized and sponsored by a campaign organization to register at Igbariam. Drivers of two of the luxurious vehicles, Mr. Ikechukwu Odika and Mr. Osita Nzeako said they were directed by their companies on the assignments and had no details of what was involved. One of INEC Ad-hoc workers at the Ofala square Igbariam and a Corps member, Mr. Alahusa Olawale said there was upsurge of people at the registration centre on Saturday but did not understand what was happening. When contacted on, by one of the journalists, the Jos manager of one of the Transport companies who identified himself as Ugo confirmed that the company was hired to convey the passengers to Igbariam. Youths to monitor party primaries in Anambra State The Acting Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Chibuzor Ekwenye has called on political parties to conduct a free, fair and credible primaries in the interest of justice. He stated this during a press briefing in Awka. The Youth leader condemned what he described as barbaric and inhuman deportation of some Ndi Anambra and others by Lagos State Government and demanded for an unreserved apology from Lagos State Government to the Anambra State government. The acting Chairman noted that the World Programme of Action for youths played a prominent role in youth development as it concentrates on measures to strengthen the capacity of youths by increasing the opportunities available to them. Also speaking a member of the youth council, Mr. Ken Okolie charged their members to champion issues that are of benefits to the entire society describing what is happening in Nigeria today as products of system failure. A Clergyman calls for Prayers in Choosing Governor Obi’s Successor The Acting Managing Director ABS, Reverend Alphonsus Ginikanwa has called on Ndi Anambra to pray fervently for God’s intervention in choosing the successor of Governor Peter Obi. Reverend Ginikanwa made the call during the usual Monday Morning Prayer of the Anambra Broadcasting Services in Awka. Staff reporter Nneka Ibe Anliefo now completes the story. VOICE The Acting Managing Director who explained that the state needed a young, dynamic successor to Governor Obi, wants Ndi Anambra to rally round and support him and prayed that God in his infinite mercy would provide the state with good leader that will sustain the tempo of the recent developmental strides. UPSOT Contributing, Canon Basil Orji of the ABS, also prayed for a smooth election of who replaces Governor Obi, charged Christians to always shun anger which he noted is the genesis of many problems in the society. Canon Orji extolled the governor for his developmental stride but reminded him and the in-coming leader that ABS is still yearning for improved welfare. Anambra Celebrates 22nd Anniversary As the State celebrates its twenty-second anniversary, reactions from across well meaning individuals have continued to flow our news desk especially on the unprecedented achievements of Governor Peter Obi’s administration in the past seven years. Speaking, to the newsmen Managing Director of the State road Maintenance Agency, Mr. Charles Ifeakor said, the Obi administration has positively transformed the landscape of the state and made Awka a befitting capital. Mr. Ifeakor maintained that the ANIDs Programme of the Government has brought positive monumental transformation in virtually all sectors of its economy, given citizenry, a sense of belonging and the state taken to its rightful position. Reacting, the Director, Electronics Development Institute (EDI), Professor Michael Ndinech commended Governor Obi for the socio-economic development and extolling democracy dividends to none state owned institution in the state. Professor Ndinechi, while extending the present administration for the good work so far said the state has witnessed tremendous progress since creation in 1991 saying that the citizenry have cause to smile.
