APGA’s Willie Obiano Emerges winner of Anambra Governorship Elections ======================================================================= Strong indications has emerged that the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, would emerge winner in the Governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday as he has opened an unassailable lead. Unofficial results compiled by elombah reveals that the APGA candidate, Willie Obiano has won with a very high margin, followed by Chris Ngige and Tony Nwoye. The labor party candidate, Ifeanyi Ubah came a distant fourth. Despite the awaited result from Idemmili North ,which will may make no difference to the result released so far, 20 Local Governments Have Been Declared and APGA WON 16 Local Governments With 171,975 VOTES. In spite of the reschedule elections in 65 polling units, Chief Willy Obiano of APGA, is in the lead in two out the three senatorial zones in the state. PDP is in 2nd place - PDP with 93,485 VOTES and won only 2 Local Governments In 3rd Place is APC with 85,165 votes and won only One local Government. However, election did not hold in some parts of Idemili North and South Local Government areas both of which are within the Central senatorial zone, and the stronghold of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige, following late arrival of electoral materials in most of the polling units in the area. Obiano is ahead in Anambra North, comprising Awka North and South, Njikoka, Dunukofia, Anaocha, and Idemili North and South Local Government Areas (LGAs). Obiano, and his People’s Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Comrade Tony Nwoye, hail from Anambra North. There are seven Local Government Areas that make up the Anambra North Senatorial zone, and APGA is reportedly leading in all the Local Government Area in the zone. Obiano is also leading in Anambra Central, comprising Onitsha North and South, Ogbaru, Oyi, Ayamelum, and Anambra East and West LGAs. The winner in Anambra South, comprising Orumba North and South, Aguata, lhiala, Ekwusigo, and Nnewi North and South LGAs, is too close to call. However, the two front runners in this senatorial district are Willy Obiano of APGA and Ifeanyi Uba of LP. APGA is also said to be ahead of other political parties in the Central Senatorial zone, where the incumbent governor, Mr. Peter Obi, and the party’s national chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, come from. The party is also said to be leading in Awka North, Awka South, Anaocha and Njikoka Local Government Areas within this senatorial district. In the South Senatorial district, report of the governorship election showed that APGA at the time of filing this report had swept majority of the votes in three out of the seven Local Government Areas that make up the State. Although the governorship election was generally peaceful in most of the polling units visited, there were cases of late commencement of accreditation of voters in some polling units. The names of some prospective voters were missing in the voters register thus making it impossible for those affected to cast their votes. For instance, in Uruezide polling unit in Alor ward 1, Idemili South Local Government, which is the polling unit of the APC governorship candidate, Senator Ngige, some of the prospective voters could not find their names in the voter register, even though they had voters’ card. THE Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Anambra, Mr. Tony Nwoye ALSO could not vote in Saturday’s election as he could not find his name in the voter’s register at his Nsugbe Ward 1 polling booth in Anambra East Local Government Area. Also, his parents were unable to vote just as he alleged that over 30 percent of his supporters were disenfranchised as they could not trace their names in the register. His mentor, Chief Arthur Eze also could not vote as his name was missing in the electoral rolls.
