APOSTLES ARE GIVEN A ROD OF AUTHORITY ACCORDING TO THEIR METRON Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. NIV But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. KJV GRACE: is the Greek charis meaning favor, gift, benefit, ability, capacity, the aggregate of the extremely diverse powers and gifts granted, etc. Can also be understood of the power used to undertake and administer the apostolic office. It contains the idea of kindness which is bestowed upon one which he has not deserved MEASURE: or apportioned it here is the Greek metron meaning measure, an instrument for measuring a vessel for receiving and determining the quantity of things, whether dry or liquid a graduated staff for measuring, a measuring rod proverbially, the rule or standard of judgment determined extent, portion measured off, measure or limit the required measure, the due, fit, measure So an apostles metron or measure of rule or rod of authority is connected to the grace given him or her and connected to his or her apostolic commissioning and assignment from heaven. Moses in Exodus 4 was given a rod of authority. He had a shepherds-type staff or rod in his hand. When God told him to throw it on the ground it became a snake. God said pick it up by the tail and became a staff again in his hand. It became a staff for miracles - to demonstrate the supernatural. It was a staff or rod of authority in Moses hand. It was connected to his metron- his calling, commission and sending apostolic assignment. With it miracles of deliverance happen as judgments are released on Egypt. With it the Red Sea is parted. Now you understand why in Exodus 17 Moses needed to keep the staff/rod of God held high so Joshua could prevail in the fight with the Amalekites in the valley below. The demon prince of the Amalekites - Amalek - attacked Moses with tiredness and weariness so he would lower his rod of authority. Amalel comes from the Hebrew root amal meaning to wear down, to make weary and tired. That was the enemys strategy against Moses - a type of an apostle. Moses tiredness was not a natural one. It was demonic - demonic pressure and weariness from the demon prince Amalek. Thank God for Aaron and Hur who sat Moses on a stone and held up his hands with the staff of God until Joshua prevailed. This is how important that staff was. It represented Moses metron - his measure of rule and authority connected to his apostolic assignment. Its very important to understand that obedience is connected to the supernatural functioning of this rod/staff of authority. The staff is powerfulto bring blessing, miracles and deliverance. But it will also bring judgment if abused. You cannot abuse the staff/rod of authority. An apostlemust not abuse his or her metron give by the grace of God. There are sever consequences if you do. Just ask Moses. In Numbers 20:8 God asked Moses to speak to the rock in order for water to pour out. Moses was so frustrated pastoring - shepherding these stiff-nicked obstinate Hebrew rebels in the wilderness, that he struck the rock twice with his staff instead. God honored it and wated gushed out. BUT - Moses missed getting into the Promised Land. Can you imagine that??? He had to put up with these rebels all those years dealing with their complaining, and then because of his disobedience and abusing his staff/rod of authority - his metron - he gets LEFT BEHIND. Thats pretty serious. And very sad. Please do not get so frustrated with folks God has called you to lead, that you disobey God and out of frustration abuse your apostleship. God may at first honor it. But in the end - it may not go well with you. God does not like His authority that He has delegated to His commissioned apostle to be abused through disobedience - even if the leader is stressed out, frustrated, ready for Prozac or whatever. Get some help if you are there. Please get some deliverance. And maybe your people need some deliverance too if they have gotten you to that place. Some Speculation: Perhaps Moses may have gotten so messed up because he was trying to pastor these people rather than be the prophetor apostle he was called to be for them. Just an idea. Think about it. Perhaps Pastor Moses should have continued to step up to the plate and stay in the gameas Prophet Moses or Apostle Moses. Connected to his commissionand to his metron was the ability to succeed in all God had called him to do. Perhaps his leadership blade got dull because he backed off the prophetic/apsotolic dimension of it and decided to be just Pastor Moses. Just some speculation here. If youre an apostle - commissioned and sent by God, you have by grace been given a metron - a measure of rule - a rod/staff of authority. Yes - you must be a shepherd to Gods people. But if you are an apostle, then be an apostle, and dont try to pastor them - there is a difference I believe. Take your rod of authority. It is your connection to the supernatural unseen realm - the realm of the invisible - the realm of the invisible Kingdom. It is connected toyour assignment and your commission. Listen for the voice of God. Hear and then simple obey, and see what God will do for you and those you are called to lead.
