APPEAL FOR OWNER OF ELDERLY COLLIE Do you know who owns this lost girl ???? We received a call earlier today about a dog that was thought to have been hit by a car in the Ballybofey area. She was limping badly on her left hand side, we were told that she was underweight (later found out that she is 14kg) and must have been out a while as her back was covered in Matts of hair. Two of our volunteers went to were she was been kept and the poor girl was so frightened, she just cowered and lay down when approached. We could clearly see that something wasnt right with this girl. We coached her into the van and proceeded to the vets. On examination from the vet we noticed firstly that she has a temperature which would not be typical for a dog in shock as a dogs temperature normally lowers after an accident. The vet also noticed a puncture wound on the dogs shoulder and first suspicion was that she was shout. For this we had an x-ray taken of her chest to she if maybe there was fragments of lead but gladly this was clear. We now suspected that she got in a fight with another dog as there is a lot of bruising around the area . We had another X-ray taken of her hips and back to see if she was indeed hit by a car and found that this lovely girl had arthritis on her spine which was causing her to walk strangely and causing her extreme pain. Although we cant rule out her been hit by a car the arthritis is our main concern at present. The overall condition of this girl is poor but any dog been out over the past week in that weather would get matted and soon find themselves slightly underweight . Our main objective now is to see if this girl has a loving owner that is looking for her. This girl is now settled into her foster home for the night and is on Anti-boitics for the next 7 days and steroids for more than likely the rest of her life to deal with the pain of her arthritis. We have cream for her open wound and are optimistic that she will make a recovery from her injures. We have named her Precious due to her good nature even though it is clear to see that she is not having the best time at the minute.
