APPLICATION FORM For The Derek A. Lagos Scholarships (page 1 of 2) SECAUCUS HIGH SCHOOL For those students who did not have a chance to meet my youngest son, Derek, let me give you a little history about who Derek was. For those students that did meet Derek, thank you for being part of his life. You touched his life in wonderful ways, and I am sure you know it For all students: it is my pleasure to celebrate Derek’s life and the way he lived it. Derek was a very good student and excelled in sports. Derek, since he was two years old, demonstrated great abilities for soccer, basketball, baseball and hockey on ice. As parents, we supported him 100% in all his sports choices, but as time went by; his schedule was limited so we asked Derek to focus/choose two sports rather than 4. When Derek crossed over, he was playing soccer with DEN of Lions in Newark and that team held the 2nd spot in the State of New Jersey. As for basketball, Derek was given the 2009 MVP Award, as the Secaucus Marra’s Team won 1st place undefeated. Derek completed the Higher Advanced Program at St. Peter’s Prep in the summer of 2009 and went on to win the St. Peter’s Prep HAP Soccer MVP which has been named after Derek and given every July at St. Peter’s Prep to one Soccer MVP future student. Derek also won at HAP an Academic Award for leading his class. Aside from his sports/academic abilities, Derek was a kind young man, by far not perfect but considerate, funny and loving. Derek was known for his hugs--not caring what the world thought about showing affection as he grew up in a home where hugging was the best expression of love. Derek was Catholic, attended Mass and had already signed up for Confirmation. I thought sharing this story for those who may not have known Derek, would give you a better idea of who he was/how he led his life…as he always said “fear less; regret nothing”…and that’s what I ask you to do, young men and ladies, when applying for his scholarship. Best of luck! Sincerely, Justin (Derek’s brother) and mom, Ingrid
