APS Recruitment : More of the Same As we suspected and expected to happen, things will continue as they currently are with APS appointments restricted to current APS officers - in the main. No new short term contracts and existing ones to cease - unless the Agency Head agrees... and they will be audited. As reported in the PSnews article below, the key items to note are #1: In its updated Interim arrangements for APS recruitment, the APSC advises that the use of existing staff needs to be maximised, while avoiding new engagements wherever possible. #2: There will also be scope to advertise externally in compelling circumstances, for example, where an essential job cannot be filled from within the APS. #3: Similarly, no new non-ongoing arrangements were to commence, or existing non-ongoing arrangements to be extended, without Agency head approval, the APSC said. Mind you, those who are consultants tell me they are VERY busy. (Consulting payments come out of a different bucket of money, ie not salary allocations, in case you didnt know.)
