APSO investigating death of a 56-year-old man Ascension Parish Sheriffs Detectives are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man who was found underneath his truck in the flooded parking lot at his place of employment. According to Chief Deputy Tony Bacala a business on Babin Road in Duplessis decided to allow employees to go home at about 11:00 a.m. due to rising flood water. Then, at about 4:50 p.m., a supervisor noticed that one of the employees vehicles was still in the parking lot and went to check it. As he neared the vehicle he noticed that the owner of the vehicle was underneath it. The supervisor quickly pulled the man from under the vehicle and called the Sheriff’s Office when he found the man unresponsive. Chief Deputy Bacala indicated that the Sheriff’s Office has assigned detectives to investigate the death, but that initial indications are that the death was accidental. “Water was flowing swiftly across the parking lot and the water was probably 12 to 18 inches deep. There is a strong likelihood the deceased man slipped, fell, and was swept under the vehicle but it is too early in the investigation to make a definitive conclusion,” Chief Bacala said. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the deceased pending an official notification to the family.
