ARCTIC TRIP - Day 7 - Val DOr, Quebec. Had one more look around - TopicsExpress

ARCTIC TRIP - Day 7 - Val DOr, Quebec. Had one more look around Chisasibi before the 12 hour drive southward. The community center, the church, the administrative center. It was hard to leave. I hit the beautifully paved 82 km road east to the James Bay Road and pointed the car south. The spaghetti was so good at the 620 km roads only stop at km 381, that I had it again for lunch. I stopped along the road to take more pictures along the way. After several hours, I reached the checkpoint at km 6 and gave my name to check back out. It seemed a long drive in the dark from Matagami to Val DOr, and it rained most of the way. I slowed down where my car got stuck when I took a picture of that Baie-James sign. Id been to Val DOr a couple of times before. Like Kirkland Lake at the same parallel, Val DOr is a mining town as well. But its changed a lot, and become much busier in the 20 years since I was last here. Im staying in a beautiful hotel that is only 3 years old. So built up compared to the genteel mining community it once was. Thats why I want to see these places before theyre overrun and only a shadow of their former selves. Another 9 hours of driving today to reach the US/Canada border and home.
