ARE ATHEISTS RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALISTS? Religious fundamentalists mowed down children in a blood curdling manner and massacred satirists in Paris. Hate psychology fostered by religious devotion has made every fundamentalist a living time bomb waiting to explode at the slightest provocation. In the Parliament of Religions in Chicago, Swami Vivekananda created a stir with his explosive speech on religious fundamentalism.“I am proud to belong to India,a nation that has sheltered the persecuted refugees of all religions. We have gathered in our bosom the Israelites when their holy temple was shattered by Roman tyranny. We have not only sheltered but also fostered the remnants of the grand Zoroastrian nation.” Atheists cannot be militant,but strongly believe that religion is inherently negative and divisive and the world would be a better place without it. When devotion increases, it transforms itself into fanaticism giving birth to atrocities.
