ARE WE ALMOST THERE?! The Queenscliffe Council has released the findings of the community survey and the results are absolutely conclusive with around 75% of people voting for no commercial development! In terms of first and second preferences, around 80% voted for Option 2 – “landscape improvements”, with Option 1 “do nothing” coming next. The eco-cabins and spa options were left for dead. Last Friday the community-based Lonsdale Lighthouse Reference Group met with the Mayor, Councillors and Council staff and consultants to review the findings and vote on the options. The Reference Group, despite representing a pretty broad range of interests, voted UNANIMOUSLY for Option 2. The response from the Council side was positive: • The Mayor stated this community has expressed very clearly what they want. • The Acting CEO stated that it is fairly clear that Option 2 is preferred. • The lead consultant said in her 40 years in the industry shed never seen a higher number of responses from a small community with an unequivocal response an extraordinary result and ... a significant level of involvement by the community.” The Reference Group has undertaken to provide some specific feedback to the Council detailing what it is seeking as part of Option 2 – this will be done shortly and a link will be provided here. Next we await the formal response from the Council.
