ARE YOU A SOBERANO? November 30 is Bonifacio Day. Far from the colonial propaganda that Andres Bonifacio was Andres Bonifacio was a headless chicken, the DECALOGUE he wrote enumerating the Duties of the Sons (and Daughters) of the People, is an incontrovertible proof that that he was a great visionary as he was a true revolutionary. Very few of us had been able to visit this historical document during our school days. Please note carefully the universality of the concepts he espoused to constitute the credo of the Katipunan, because they apply to this day and age because tyranny still dominates this country as it did in 1896 and WHEN TYRANNY BECOMES LAW, REBELLION BECOMES DUTY. Remember, in a democracy the citizens are the absolute sovereign, and he who acts to uphold and protect his sovereignty is a Soberano. Let me crystallize each of the 10 values that applied then to the Katipuneros and now to all Soberanos - First and second, love of God and neighbor. Third, patriotic defense of sovereignty. Fourth sobriety in all undertakings. Fifth, honor and integrity. Sixth, selflessness. Seventh, your life as a witness of good example. Eighth, preferential option for the poor. Ninth, productivity and exceptionalism. Tenth, undying hope that justice will eventually reign. November 30 is also national heroes day, so it can be your day too if you adhere to the values and principles expressed in Bonifacios Decalogue. And when you act on these principles, wherever you are in the Philippines, you become a SOBERANO.
