ARE YOU A TIGGER OR AN EYORE? Everybody knows one...there is - TopicsExpress

ARE YOU A TIGGER OR AN EYORE? Everybody knows one...there is usually one in every office in America. It doesnt take more than 10 seconds of watching them walk in the door to recognize them. I call them Eyore, and they have a very contagious disease. If you dont watch out, you can catch it too- the Eyore Disease! Im sure all of you have seen the A.A. Milne books and cartoons about Winnie-The-Pooh and his cast of friends in the 100 acre woods. I want to focus on two main characters in the books- Eyore and Tigger. EYORE Eyore is a donkey that is always tired and negative about life. He walks around with his shoulders down and his head down, sauntering slowly from one place to another. He says things in a downtrodden voice like: It isnt mine. Then again, few things are. Not much of a house. Just right for not much of a donkey. End of the road... nothing to do... and no hope of things getting better. Sounds like Saturday night at my house. Tell the truth, now- you are starting to picture that person in the office, arent you? Maybe that person is a friend of yours, or a relative of yours. Every time you call them, they let you know how tired they are, how much they have done that day, and just how bad their life is. Kind of makes you want to go crawl in a dark room and cry, doesnt it? They are what you call Life Vacuums- they suck the life right out of the room! Randy Pausch, the cancer-ridden college professor who gave the single greatest speech I have ever seen, called The Last Lecture, had this to say about the Life Vacuums: I’ve never understood pity and self-pity as an emotion. We have a finite amount of time. Whether short or long, it doesn’t matter. Life is to be lived.” (By the way, if for some reason you have not seen or read The Last Lecture, please do so immediately. You can get the book, which has his entire speech in it, or you can Youtube it as well- it is amazing!) Dont get me wrong- I am not trying to say that I have never felt sorry for myself or held a Pity Party from time to time. The thing you CANT do is make it a lifestyle. Life is too short to go around miserable! TIGGER Tigger is a tiger in the 100 acre woods. He is constantly in motion, excited, and eternally optimistic. Tigger bounces around on his tail (Dont you wish you could do that?) and says things like: Sure! Come on, try it! It makes ya feel just grrreat! The wonderful thing about tiggers / Is tiggers are wonderful things / Their tops are made out of rubber / Their bottoms are made out of springs / Theyre bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun / But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is Im the only one / IIIIIm the only one! You know whats great- the minute I mention Tigger, someone in your life comes to mind immediately. Now THAT person makes you smile. They are always bouncing around with a positive attitude and a cheery smile. They attract people because- guess what- THEY ARE FUN TO BE AROUND! TODAY, MAKE A POINT TO HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH, STRAIGHTEN YOUR SHOULDERS AND ADD A LITTLE BOUNCE TO YOUR STEP! TREAT PEOPLE WITH THAT TIGGER EXCITEMENT FOR WHAT IS TO COME. ONCE AGAIN, LIFE IS SHORT, AND IF YOURE GOING TO GO AROUND, YOU MIGHT AS WELL GO AROUND HAPPY! Have a bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun day- make the most of it!
