ARLINGTON, Va. – Astor, a K9 member of the Arlington County Police Department will receive a ballistic protective vest thanks to a nationwide Groupon campaign that has raised over $335,000. Astor is one of over 350 law enforcement dogs nationwide that will receive the protective body armor, provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., in memory of K9 Rocco of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police who sacrificed his life in the line of duty in January of 2014. All vests will be embroidered with the sentiment, “In Memory of K9 Rocco, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.” K9 Astor is a Belgian Malinois and has been a member of the Arlington County Police Department for a little over one year. He is patrol and tracking certified and is currently assigned to the evening shift to supplement patrol.
