ARMY COMMANDER ORDERS SECURITY AROUND PETER MUTHARIKAS PREMISES DESPITE JBS RESISTANCE News reaching Malawi Voice indicates that Malawi Army Commander General Henry Odillo has ordered a 24hour security around Peter Mutharika’s premises. Weeks before the polls, General Odillo indicated that the Malawi Defence Forces (MDF) would support and protect the legitimate winner.General Odillo’s move follows reports that outgoing president Banda is planning to cling to power and employ all tricks remaining in her purse to prevent Mutharika from ascending to power. Reports also indicate that Banda is plotting a coup against the incoming government of Mutharika.This follows unofficial results that are awaiting the stamp of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) which indicated that Mutharika has won. According to the results from all the districts in the country, President Mutharika has polled 1, 789, 364 and is being trailed by Malawi Congress Party’s Lazarus Chakwera who has polled 1, 387, 500. Meanwhile, incumbent Joyce Banda of the Peoples’ Party (PP) has polled 1, 042, 686 with Atupele Muluzi of the United Democratic Front (UDF) being at the bottom of the top four 0, 665, 519.
